When is the North Shore Cancer RUN?

How long is the North Shore Cancer RUN?

The RUN offeres a 5K and a 10K route - both are out and back courses.

Where does the North Shore Cancer RUN begin?

The North Shore Cancer RUN is held rain or shine at the Beverly Cove Community Center, 19 E. Corning Street, with a shotgun start at 8:00 am. There is plenty of FREE parking at the nearby Lynch Park, 55 Ober Street, Beverly.  Lynch Park is just a short warm up walk to the Community Center. 

Is the RUN chip timed?

Yes, the North Shore Cancer RUN is chiped timed and results will be posted on coolrunning.com

Can I participate in both the RUN and the WALK?

Yes, you can register for both the North Shore Cancer WALK and the North Shore Cancer RUN. If you have any questions, please contact us at 866-296-6900 and we will help you with your registration(s).

Why are the WALK and RUN on different days?

The North Shore Cancer WALK and RUN have grown tremendously in recent years, drawing thousands of walkers and runners alike who want to help in the fight against cancer. In 2013, to ensure that we could continue to grow while maintaining a safe and healthy environment, and after consulting with local police and safety officials, we divided this annual tradition into two exceptional events. This year, we will be holding the annual North Shore Cancer WALK on June 24, 2018 and the North Shore Cancer RUN on October 14, 2018.

Where should I park for the RUN?

There is plenty of FREE parking at the nearby Lynch Park, 55 Ober Street in Beverly, just a short warm up walk to the Community Center.

Can I ride my bike or in-line skate at the North Shore Cancer WALK or RUN?

For safety's sake, please leave in-line skates, scooters and bikes at home. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome!

Can I walk the RUN course?

We encourage participants of all abilities, however, walkers are encouraged to participate in the WALK held in June. If you want to walk the course, we encourage you to do the 5K. If you want to walk the 10K, please be aware that the festivities and refreshments close at 10am.

How do I volunteer for the WALK or RUN?

How do I register for the RUN?

Go to: www.northshorecancerrun.org to register, form a team, join an existing team and create your own customized online donation page.

Where do I pick up my bib number?

Bibs will be mailed out within two weeks of the RUN and will also be available starting at 7am on race day.

Is there a registration fee for the RUN?

The registration fee is $30 prior to race day and $40 on race day.

What do I get for registering for the RUN?

Long-sleeved tech running shirts are available to the first 150 registered runners or to anyone who raises $100 or more. Shirts will be mailed with bib numbers within two weeks of the RUN and will also be available starting at 7am on race day.

Can my dog run with me?

We love our canine supporters but we ask that you keep your dog at home for the run. Leashed dogs are welcomed at the WALK in June and we even have water at the water stops for your pooch! However, with the logistics of the race we are unable to allow dogs as part of the event.

Donation/Fundraising Questions

Is there a fundraising minimum for the North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN?

There is no minimum fundraising amount need to participate in either event. The typical runer raises $100 to make a difference in the fight against cancer (example: ask 10 of your closest friends and/or family for $10 = $100).

Who should I make my check out to?

Please make all checks payable to: North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN.

What if a check is made out to me, not North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN?

If a donor makes the check out to you, simply endorse the check with your signature and "Payable to North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN" and submit it with the donation form. Please note that the account holder on the check will receive the tax receipt from North Shore Medical Center.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes. All monetary donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Where do I turn in my donations?

How are offline donations processed and when will they show up on my fundraising page?

Offline donations should be mailed to: North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN, 81 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970. Once they are received and processed they will show up on your fundraising page. It takes 5 to 7 business days from the time of receipt for offline donations to show up on your fundraising page.

If several people give me cash donations can I write one check for that amount and turn it in?

We do not recommend you deposit the cash into your own account and write a check for the amount; the IRS will consider that deposit income in your account and you will be taxed on the amount. Additionally, if a check is written from your account, you will receive the tax receipt. It isn't possible to have a check written from your personal account credited to another donor.

For any cash donation you receive, please convert the cash to a cashier's check and mail it with a completed donation form. Please be sure to include the donor's personal information on the donation form so that an accurate receipt can be generated for tax purposes. If you have several cash donations from different donors and want to convert them to one check, you can accompany one cashier's check with multiple donation forms to indicate the amount that each donor contributed. Each donor will receive a tax receipt for the amount specified on their donation form.

Do you accept matching gifts?

Yes, a simple way to double or triple your gift is to find out if your company matches donations. Contact your human resources department for more information. If they match gifts, they may have you complete a matching gift form and mail it to our organization. You can send those forms to: North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN, 81 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970.

Fundraising Tips

Here are a few suggestions on how to help you fundraise for the WALK/RUN.

Get the word out

Let friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, associations, classmates know you are participating in the RUN. They are all potential donors. Ask everyone for their support.

Team up

Recruit a team of friends and/or co-workers and increase your fundraising efforts by working together.

Double your fundraising

Check with your employer for a matching gifts program.

Organize an event

Let people know all proceeds benefit the North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN. The possibilities are endless: yard sale, candy sale, benefit dance or auction, raffle, car wash or dog wash. Ask friends to donate to the in lieu of gift giving; ask a local restaurant to donate a portion of one day’s sales. Invite your friends for a get-together and raise funds with a wine tasting, pot luck dinner, game night or tea party.

Write a fundraising letter

Mail or e-mail your contacts about your involvement in the North Shore Cancer RUN and ask for their support.

Online fundraising

Start your fundraising early here where you can create your own fundraising page. Friends and family can donate online and you can send personal e-mails to encourage participation.
